The City of Wadsworth has owned and operated its own electric distribution system since 1916. Electricity is purchased from American Municipal Power, a group of municipally owned and operated electric systems throughout Ohio, and serves over 12,500 customers. Local ownership insures a greater commitment to service for residential, commercial and industrial users. The municipal system also provides free street lighting, free electricity for city operations, and local control and reliability for customers. In addition, the system is highly reliable due to a well-designed loop system that prevents brownouts that minimizes outages. Wadsworth Communications provides cost effective High Speed Internet and Video services to the Wadsworth, Ohio area. In addition to cable modem services, business class circuits are also offered via direct fiber. All design, construction and service is provided "in-house" allowing for communication possibilities not found in most other communities. Wadsworth is also a major connection point in the Medina County fiber project that will build a 150 mile loop around Medina County and connect to POPs in Cleveland and Akron.
The public parks of the city, Medina County Park District and Metro Parks, Serving Summit County enhance quality of life. The public school system, Wadsworth City Schools, is rated "excellent with distinction" by the Ohio Department of Education.
